My parents are the most precious in my life. I love my mother and father very much, also my parents too. I’m only daughter in my family. So my parents put all the energy is concentrated in my life. When I was in my country, I didn’t realize my parents are the most precious people for me. Because they never let me to do anything, always help me in the back. So I don’t know what is suffering until I came to the United States. In my country, they bought everything to me whatever I want and my father never Scold to me. I remember the 13 years old birthday which is the good memory in my childhood. My mother bought piano to me, at that time I was surprised. I know things cannot instead everything. I think the most important thing is the heart. I can feel happy and warm from my parents. They try their best to support me and they never say anything. Since I came to the United States, I realized many things. In the United States, everything I must do myself, sometimes I really tired and something I don’t know how to do it. At that time, I was really missed my parents. So I must treasure my parents’ thanksgiving. Nothing more important than this.

FE #7 vacation

New York City is a good for people to visit on a vacation. New York is a very famous place in the United States. I heard many CESL friends will go to New York this winter vacation. Also, I will go to New York. That is because there is a Chinatown called Flushing. I want to go there and eat some Chinese food. Since I came to the United States I have hardly eaten any Chinese traditional food. Last year, I went there, and tasted many kinds of delicious food. One food's name is hotpot. I really like this food. It is very popular in China. And also there are my friends; I will meet them and compare our emotions.

FE #6 my favorite food

My favorite food is Champong. I like this food very much. That is because there are many kinds of seafood with hot soup and noodles, such as shrimp, sleeve-fish, crab meat and pincers. And it also has some vegetables, like cabbage, kohlrabi, onion and mushroom. First of all, put the water into the pot with cayenne pepper and boil. And then put in all kinds of seafood, whatever you like. Next, put in some vegetables. The last thing is to add some noodles. When I eat this food, I feel like all stress gets out. I hope people try it once; they must enjoy it.

In my country, people spend time by ourselves are not considered strange. Many people like to spend time by themselves, also me too. I like spend time by myself. Most of time, I like a person alone. Because it is free. Whatever I like, whatever I do. I can play computer, games and watch TV all the day. I prefer to see drama. And I don’t like somebody interrupt me when I was watching drama. But if I have something good thing, I would like to spend time with my friends. We can celebrate together. Usually we go to the bar or KTV to singing and dancing. And if I have a lot of stress I like to shop to buy many things. Makes me happy and get out of the stress. But when I have something bad thing or sad thing, I would like to sleep in my home. Because sleep can help me nothing I can think. I think everybody pursuit alone time is different. Some people really don’t like alone, they must have somebody to be side of them. In any case, people should make themselves happy. Because people who is alive to enjoy the fun.

Abalone diver’s risk

According to Richard C. Paddock’s article “Abalone divers in a perilous quest for a succulent snail,” in California, diving for slow-moving abalone is the one of the dangerous recreational activities. So, seven divers have died on the coast of Sonoma and Mendocino countries so far this year. First of all, if the diver goes into the sea, they cannot fix the problem by themselves when they get trouble. That is because there are a lot of factors involving the flow of the water and also danger is complex. Second, in this season many people pursue the abalone and thousands of people go to the Northern California coast to pluck abalones. Though the divers often come to the coast in groups and rent a house or camp outside for living several days. Third, the recreational activity is usually called a dangerous activity, because there are a lot of ways to get in trouble. Sometimes the diver is entangled in the kelp or buffeted by strong waves. Long time ago, a diver was killed by a great white shark. In conclusion, the diver said , this situation is cause by divers who didn’t use air tanks and lack education about dangerous recreational activities. And the abalones decreasing, the government makes the strong measure to ban hunting abalones at some times and the abalone divers must have licenses to be able to take the abalones.

It is clear that the recreational activities are very dangerous for divers. There are many divers who have died from this activity. I agree with the author’s opinion. many hunters are blind to plucking the abalones to get benefit; they never consider their life. This is because they are so delicious. So the government should fix the problem with the divers, because the people’s lives are more important than abalones.

First of all, the government should make a strict rule which is that the diver cannot pluck the abalone without a license and education about diving. If somebody goes against the rule they must get punishment. Like it would be a driver license; the driver who has no driver license gets a punishment. And the divers are allowed to use the mask, snorkel and flippers, but they just can pluck only one species. That is to prevent the species’ extinction. All of the rules are for the people’s life, so we should allow it. It is helpful for the people’s life, because life is precious.

Next, the government should make an artificial place to let the abalone grow up. People can take care of the abalone better than when the abalone grows up by itself in the sea. So, people carefully take care, make the abalone grow up stronger and healthy. So people cannot pluck the abalone in the sea anymore; it is very dangerous. They just can buy abalone in the artificial place; it is very easy. They don’t need to spend time and energy on dangerous activities.

Finally, the divers should be professional. They should take a class about diving and practice how to fix problems when they get trouble. Take the basic education before go into the sea. And also go with group when they go into the sea. This way can reduce more dangerous accident.

In conclusion, people should realize life’s importance, to protect our lives. Follow the government rule; we are going to be happy with our lives. Don’t try to do dangerous things, and also save the abalones and always protect them. And try to set up the thing to save the divers.

FE #5 American election

In 2008, November 4 is American Election day. John McCain and Barack Obama were in competition for votes and it was fierce. They visited many places to let volunteers vote for them. In Pennsylvania, Obama leads McCain by 8 percentage points. And national polls show Obama leading McCain by 7 percentage points. So at the end, Obama won. So many American people celebrated Obama’s victory. Also, other countries did too, such as Gordon Brown, Europeans, Kenyans, Germans and so on. But some countries were underwhelmed, like Iraq and Sudan.

Everybody has a dream and also people pursuit dreams come true. Different people have different dreams. Depend on person’s mind. Some dreams are easy to achieve but some dreams are very difficult to achieve. That is why we call it dream. My dream is also to travel. Before I went to the United States, I never think about that. In my country I just blind study or play with my friends. I never think about the future. Why am I study and what do I do in the future. But when I came to the United States and stay here almost 1 year, I felt a lot of things and change a lot of mind. First, I learned American culture that is totally different in my county. It is deep impression. It also learned the culture of other countries. Because we have lot of international students in CESL. I was very interested listen to the other countries culture. Since then I was very want to travel other countries. When I was child, I have been traveled Korea, but I cannot remember everything, because that time I was so young. I don’t know what is going on. Now I want to finish my university immediately and want to travel Europe, Australia and Africa. If I will travel those countries, I think, that is good memory for my life.

FE #4 Halloween

Last year's Halloween was my first time to enjoy the festival in America. I have spent a happy time in CESL. Before I had never seen this situation, because our country has no Halloween. That day in the morning I went to school; in the street most people dressed up in strange costumes. And when I arrived in the CESL hallway I was shocked about teacher, because all of the CESL teachers were dressed up in strange costumes and their makeup was very scary. They wore a wig in their hair, had a lot of blood on their skin and wore a mask on their face. At first, I didn't know that the people who wore the strange costumes were our teachers; a few minutes later I realized it. It was funny. Also in the afternoon we made pumpkins with classmates. So I like the Halloween day.

In china, we have no Halloween day, but we have Tomb-sweeping day like Halloween day to respect of the dead. But some situation is different. In America, people celebrate Halloween day very crazy. But in China, we just celebrate quite. Tomb Sweeping day is one of the few traditional Chinese holidays. That follows the solar calendar-- typically falling on April 4, 5, or 6. Its Chinese name "Qing Ming." literally means "Clear Brightness.” Tomb sweeping day is the most important springtime festival. Similar to the spring festivals of other cultures. Tomb sweeping day is also a happy occasion for outdoor activities, such as picnicking, tug-of-war, kite-flying, swinging, dancing, etc. This might be an important reason why this festival has been very popular for thousands of years. Tomb sweeping day, Chinese visit their family graves to tend to any underbrush that has grown. Weeds are pulled, and dirt swept away, and the family will set out offerings of food and spirit money. Family elders will visit the gravesite at least once a year to tend to the tombs. And we go to there take some food and paper money. The food usually consists of chicken, eggs, or other dishes a deceased ancestor was fond of. Accompanied by rice, the dishes and eating utensils are carefully arranged so as to bring good luck. Sometimes, a family will put burning incense with the offering so as to expedite the transfer of nutritious elements to the ancestors. In some parts of China, the food is then eaten by the entire family. And, also to burning paper money.
